That was theN
Since 2013 I’ve been an illustrator and arts educator in NYC. Perhaps best known for my fantasy portrait work in the Neo-Afrofuturism arts movement, I’ve enjoyed a career giving a visual voice to the image of Black Femineity in worlds real and imagined. And I’ve had the privilege of doing so with organizations such as Marvel/Disney, Wacom, San Diego Comic Con, NY Society of Illustrators, and more. But that was then…
ThIS IS NOw
Currently my focus is in book arts and related disciplines. It all started with exploring the practice of art journaling between commercial work and commissions. It was a place where any idea was worth trying out and I could record thoughts and experiences. It evolved into a fascination with the structure of books, their functions, their content and context, and a deep desire to document my legacy.
And now, as I grow into a new phase of my womanhood in a constantly chaotic world, I seek to share subjects and themes that are comparatively subversive, abstract, and dark to earlier work. Through my bookmaking and journaling process, I am able to record my creative journey, rediscover myself, understand the world around me, and share deep insights behind my work and thought process. Because art is deeper than technique and this is my platform to illustrate and articulate the significance of the cerebral and emotional elements that drive impactful and provocative artmaking.
