Experimental Brushwork- 8/21/32
I love playing around with calligraphy shapes in different ways. Just moving the line around intuitively but intentionally. I was also wanting to try something with a much broader tip than the dip pen nibs I use for writing practice.
I rumaged around for the fattest, juiciest brush I could find quickly. I’m packing to move so I really wasnt trying to unpack a thing or spend lots of valuable time looking around.
Anyway…I tried playing with the transparency by loading the brush with water and dipping one tip of a flat brush into pure ink, hoping to get some variation in the stroke.
I looooove the results.🖤😍🖤. The movement and form…it just has so much life. It can crawl, bounce, support the weight of its forms…at time the stroke appeared to create a shadow and really added depth to the form…like theres a front back, side-to side, coming atcha and swimming away happening here and i love it.
The more i stared at them the more they looked like little futuristic platforms…or jump off for layouts….im becoming obsessed with this stroke and how many ways I can flip it and what I may learn from it.
